At St Mary’s children have the opportunity to grow and learn as part of a supportive and extended community. Our experienced educators have developed close relationships with local families over many years. Each child is unique and learns differently, so our educators will spend time getting to know your child and family so we can create programs that reflect the way they will socialise, learn and grow.

Conveniently located at Assisi College, your child will benefit from our close relationship with the school. In kindergarten, children make weekly visits to the school library to borrow books and your child will be given responsibility for caring for and returning these books. They also enjoy visits to the prep classrooms, attending school events including assemblies, under 8’s days and musicals and having work experience students participate in the kindergarten room. During each visit your child will become more familiar with the school grounds and learn how to use the water bubblers, where to find the toilets and the difference between the senior and junior schools. Our educators will watch your child’s confidence grow as they become part of our broader school and parish community and prepare for prep.

We care for children from six weeks and offer a Queensland Government approved kindergarten program for children in the year before prep. We supply all meals, wipes, sunscreen and cot linen. All you need to bring is nappies, a hat and a spare change of clothes. We offer nutritious, age-specific meals for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. All meals are prepared on site daily by our cook and approved by nutrition Australia. We are supportive of special dietary requirements and encourage families to discuss their child’s needs with us.

Our mud kitchen is a favourite spot, where the children create with loose objects and experiment with different natural materials including sand, sticks, leaves and water.

Climbing, jumping and even building their own obstacle courses in our outdoor space helps children develop strength, coordination and confidence.

Construction with blocks, wooden shapes and other materials provides an opportunity for children to express their ideas, create and collaborate, developing socially through play.

Home corner is a favourite for many of our children who enjoy recreating and sharing their family routines and traditions, with their own creative twist.

Confidence with books

Opportunities for enjoying books are purposefully built into many parts of our day. Our kindergarten class enjoys reading and discussing books together with their teacher, talking about the characters and developments in their favourite stories. Sometimes the children take these stories into the playground as a prompt for their own dramatic play. We also create environments for the children to enjoy books by themselves, or in smaller groups. In this way children have the opportunity to engage with books and reading in the way that reflects their own development and individuality.

Creating outdoors

Our expansive grounds provide for ever-changing outdoor play opportunities. The children spend time outdoors every day moving from the sandpit, climbing equipment and exploring the natural gardens. They also enjoy the opportunity to create their own play spaces, bringing together loose play equipment to explore.
